Langkawi
Langkawi Malaysia was a new destination for us but one we are so glad we did not miss. From being welcomed by locals to enjoying the breathtaking scenery and beaches, it’s definitely a go to. Do not miss the Heritage Museum or the Wedding Museum and be sure to learn about the legend of Mahsuri who cursed Langkawi for seven generations. And there’s even a Four Seasons!
Penang
Penang is an easy walkable city filled with many temples serving Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and Christianity. Although Malay is the official language, English is widely spoken especially in businesses. Penang has almost 2 million inhabitants with about a million living in the Georgetown area which is the capital of Penang.
Of the many temples, do not miss the Reclining Buddha who is about 105 feet long.
Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur gained its freedom from the English in 1957. This multicultural country is comprised of many cultures and religions. Do not miss Thean Hou Temple or the Petronas Twin Towers, the Blue Mosque and the National Monument which is dedicated to the deceased military.
Singapore
Singapore is an incredibly modern, sophisticated city with its fabulous Botanical Gardens and Raffles Hotel. Its skyway connects parts of the city and its airport is a wonder in itself. Vivo City mall rivals any shopping anywhere in the world. Be aware of the various government regulations such as no gum chewing in public!
Agra - Taj Mahal
The four plus hour ride from Delhi to Agra is filled with traffic. Cars, motor bikes and tuk tuk taxis weave in and out. At times it feels as if you are at an amusement park driving bumper cars.
Fortunately, the Taj Mahal awaits! One cannot satisfactorily describe this beauty and grandeur that man created. It truly is a world wonder!
If possible, visit it at dawn to see the magnificent spectacle of the Taj Mahal as it changes colors depending upon the sun’s reflection as it rises.
And if you have the time, try to visit baby Taj nearby!
Agra is all about the Taj Mahal! Agra is about a four hour ride from Delhi and one must stop at Baby Taj upon reaching the city. If at all possible, try to view this world wonder during the day as well as at dawn. This spectacle presents itself differently depending upon the light. You cannot visit India without viewing this incredible monument.
Delhi
Delhi, capital of India with about 30 million people, is replete with monuments to the past dynasties that ruled it. From strolling through Khan Market with its many shops and stalls to Humayun’s Tomb and India Gate, Delhi offers many tourist sights. Mosques abound and a visit to Gandhi’s memorial offer many spiritual reflections. Old Delhi is a labyrinth of narrow streets filled with shops, pedestrians, tuk tuk taxis, motor bikes and trishaws. The cacophony of horns blaring and traffic jockeying and congestion is a jarring but enjoyable experience.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful trips with me.
Much love to you both.
Keep on tripping. lol.
