Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland

St. Patrick’s Day is already this week, and Rubinsohn Travel (215) 886-5200 has plans for the holiday! Don’t worry if you forgot to make your celebration plans this year. We’ve thought ahead, and have the perfect trip for you to book for 2020 to spend St. Paddy’s Day in Ireland!

St. Patrick’s Day is the feast day for the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick, held on March 17th every year. In the 17th century, this feast day was recognized by the Catholic Church. The day was made to celebrate the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. It also celebrates the culture and heritage of the Irish people. The holiday became more of a celebration with parades when immigrants started to celebrate in American cities, such as New York, Boston, and Chicago. Parades didn’t begin to happen in Ireland until the 20th century.

The place to go for a St. Patrick’s Day parade in Ireland is definitely Dublin. Dublin actually holds a five day festival for the holiday. It runs from March 14th to March 18th, and has a variety of things to do and see. The main day of course is March 17th, when the parade is held. The parade marches through Dublin, with bands playing music, dancing, theatre arts performing, and high energy. Of course, there is plenty of green and Guinness to go around too! You can finish your night off with a pint in the popular Temple Bar area of Dublin.

Extend your stay in Ireland, and see some of the most noted places right by Dublin. St Patrick’s Cathedral is a must see. The Cathedral is Ireland’s largest church. It has a rich cultural history dating back to 1191. The church has breathtaking Gothic architecture, and is a great stop to make while here.

Keep your St. Patrick’s Day celebration going by heading over to the Guinness Storehouse. Also located in Dublin, the Guinness Storehouse is where Guinness beer is brewed. They offer guided tours throughout the factory where visitors can learn about the brewing process. The tour ends with a pint of Guinness in the Gravity Bar which overlooks all of Dublin.

If you want to venture out of Dublin, finish off your trip with a journey to the Blarney Castle. Legend has it that if you kiss the Blarney Stone at the top of the Castle, it will bring you good luck. Don’t be afraid to lean back and kiss the stone, guides will help you, and there are secure rails around it now.
