A Celebration of Our Earth
April 22, 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day is a world-wide effort to bring attention to the fragile nature of the planet and our responsibility to care for it. Due to COVID-19 and stay at home orders, most if not all Earth Day celebrations this year will be virtual. However, though we may not be able to celebrate the earth in a big way this year, there are still many small ways in which we can do our part to positively impact the planet.
When we can start traveling again, travel responsibly. Several hotel chains offer incentives for making green choices in energy and housekeeping. Recycling is also a fixture in most establishments. When shopping, purchase only what you need or will use. And, since many cities around the world have banned plastic bags, remember to pack reusable totes and bags to carry your purchases. Whenever possible, skip the automobile and take a sightseeing walk. You’ll get a better view of the neighborhood and enjoy a more in-depth travel experience.
For an even more intense experience, consider an environmentally themed trip. Eco-tourism has grown in popularity and can include guided hiking expeditions, and photography classes. Lodging can range from luxury camp resorts, to the basics. Popular spots include America’s National Parks, Costa Rica, Kenya, and Brazil.
And finally, remember that in practice Earth Day is every day. Whether at home or away, taking small steps like water conservation, recycling, and responsible waste disposal can have a big impact on the environment. Just as the world belongs to all of us it is up to us to care and preserve our Earth and all its fantastic wonders for travelers alike, and generations to come.
Bring the World to Your Kitchen
Travel exposes you to new experiences. Those include places, cultures, languages, and food. With an essential trip to the grocery store, a little musical ambience, and a touch of creativity, you can prepare some international favorites in your own kitchen.
Basic food items like rice, flour, tomato sauce, vegetables, sugar and spices can be used to create international treats such as French crepes; Asian stir fry; Spanish paella, and when all else fails Italian pizza. Easy kid-friendly recipes can be found on the internet, and cooking is a great way to bring the family together.
So go ahead and pull out your culinary passport and get started. Give your family a little “taste” of the flavors of the world. In the meantime, Rubinsohn Travel is here for you and ready to help you prepare for your next international adventure.
Travel Around the World Without Leaving Your Home
Even in the best of times, it is natural to yearn for different experiences and to explore new places. But in today’s world where “stay at home” and “social distancing” is the norm, the desire to see the world can be even stronger. It seems as though these concepts and travel are conflicting. And, even if you are fortunate enough to travel in the U.S. or internationally, most of the sights are currently closed to visitors.
The good news is that some of the world’s most visited sights and venues are now open for business. Virtual tours are springing up across the internet enabling everyone to enjoy the world without ever leaving your living room. With a few clicks on your computer, you can visit some of the world’s greatest museums, enjoy world-class thrill rides, or experience tranquil beaches.
So next time the travel bug bites, plan a live personal trip with Rubinsohn Travel at (215) 886-5200.
