Get Away This Weekend
Work can be stressful, life can be stressful, and sometimes we just need a break. What better way to destress than a vacation? We know it’s hard to take time off in the middle of the year, and take a trip, which is why the experts at Rubinsohn Travel have pooled together to give you three options of weekend getaways that are easy to get to, and worth every penny. This just might be the thing you need to relax a little and get back in the swing of things.
Lewes, Delaware
Only a two-hour drive from Philadelphia, The Blue Water House in Lewes, Delaware is the perfect place to stay for your weekend away. The hotel provides a laid-back, beachy atmosphere that is perfect for anyone seeking a relaxing weekend. Homemade breakfast is included every morning during your stay, and you are only a short walk from the Delaware Bay Beaches. While in Lewes, take advantage of the rare opportunity to tour Lightship Overfalls. The lightship is one of 17 remaining out of the 179 that were built between 1850 and 1952, and is one of the seven open to the public to be toured. It truly is a spectacle to behold, and will only take up to 45 minutes of your time. For an outdoor adventure, head over to Cape Henlopen State Park. The park features unsoiled trails that can be conquered by foot or bike, an 18 hole disc golf course, camp and picnic sites, as well as access to both the Atlantic Ocean and the Delaware Bay. The park offers outdoor activities of all kinds that will make for as adventurous or relaxing a day as you make it to be. For a piece of history, head to the Cannonball House; a former home, restaurant, laundry store, and major’s office turned maritime museum. Discover the amazing story of how the city of Lewes was able to fend off British invaders during the war of 1812 without a single casualty on their side. The museum is located in the Lewes Historical Society, which is a great place to walk around, soak in the city’s rich history, and get a breath of fresh air.
Berlin, Maryland
A three-hour drive from Philadelphia, and a mere 15 minutes from Ocean City, Berlin is a small town in Maryland that you’ve probably never heard of, but you will love every moment of your visit there. The Atlantic Hotel is a victorian style building located in the center of the town that will take you back in time to a simpler era. Make an effort to snag a seat on the enclosed front porch of the on-site Drummer’s Cafe, which has been a highly acclaimed seafood destination for over a century. A meal at The Globe is a must do when visiting Berlin. The Globe Theater brought entertainment ranging from vaudeville to honky-tonk to the locals of Berlin for more than a century. The theater has since been restored, and is now a full service restaurant and bar serving delicious food, refreshing cocktails, and various forms of entertainment on a given night. Some nights feature live performers, while others feature a film to be seen while enjoying your meal. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, take to the skies with Ocean City Plane Rides, and fly in an open cockpit bi-plane to see the shore like never before. Witness the wild horses of Assateague, the beautiful blue water below, and the masses of people walking the boardwalk as you soar over Ocean City. For a more relaxing environment, head to downtown Berlin and shop at local boutique stores, stop at Fins Ale House and Raw Bar for a selection of delicious oysters and craft beers on tap, or even watch artisans work their magic at Jeffrey Auxer Designs blown-glass studio.
Hamburg, New Jersey
We know you’re itching for a tropical island getaway, but we also know you don’t always have the time to make it happen. Why not get the best of both worlds by staying at the Grand Cascades Lodge at Crystal Springs Resort? Located three-hours from Philadelphia, the resort is situated in the mountains of Hamburg, New Jersey, and has been acclaimed as the New York Metro area’s most unique four-season resort. The resort features a 10,000-square-foot indoor complex with freeform pools, lush foliage, and a grotto-like jacuzzi under a retractable roof. If you were looking for a weekend to break out the golf clubs, then look no further, as the resort features 6 championship courses. For those seeking a weekend of pure relaxation, give one of the two award winning spas on site a visit, and enjoy one of the many packages available to resort guests. There are dozens of outdoor activities to choose from such as hiking the various trails on the mountain, ziplining through the mountain creek, canoeing, and kayaking. We mentioned the resort was a four-season resort, so yes, skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing are available as well! Whatever you choose to do during the day, end your evening by enjoying a gourmet meal at the resort’s Restaurant Latour, famous for its delicious food and vast wine selection.
Whatever you’re looking for, there are options for a fulfilling weekend getaway. Everybody needs a break from time to time, so take a few days, and treat yourself! All three of these destinations offer something unique, but all of them will provide a relaxed and stress-free environment that will let you hit the reset button. Show up to work Monday feeling refreshed and ready to share your incredible trip with all of your colleagues. Don’t waste any more time, give us a call today at Rubinsohn Travel (215) 886-5200, and plan your getaway.
Be Different This Memorial Day
We know travelling for Memorial Day weekend can be a hassle, so don’t get stuck in a crowd before you leave, just to get right back into one when you arrive. This Memorial Day be different, avoid popular vacation spots, and discover some of America’s hidden gems. The folks at Rubinsohn Travel have pieced together four possible beach destinations that you’ve probably never heard of, won’t be packed with tourists, and will make you wish every weekend was a long one.
Anna Maria Island, Florida
Anna Maria Island is a gorgeous island right off the coast of Manatee County, Florida. Everyone is always hungry after a day of travelling, so once you get there, drop your bags off, and head to the Sandbar Restaurant. Tables are available in the sand, as the restaurant is located right on the water. Dip your toes in the sand, enjoy the fresh and delicious seafood available, and soak in the beautiful view in front of you. After you’re done eating, simply stand up and you’re at the beach! If you are looking for a more secluded, but still public beach, look no further than Bean Point. This beach is located at the very trip of the Island, and maintains a relaxation factor that is hard to come by on most public beaches. The beautiful blue water and soft-white sand make this the perfect place to spend your day at. If you’re looking for a little bit more of an adventurous activity, then give parasailing a whirl at Bradenton Beach! Bradenton Beach Parasailing has been in business for more than 35 years, and maintains its perfect safety record to this day. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to see the Gulf Coast like never before.
Jekyll Island, Georgia
A stay at the Jekyll Island Club Resort will make for an unforgettable trip whether you’re travelling as a couple or a family. This historic resort used to serve as a meeting ground for industry titans like the Vanderbilts and Rockefellers. The resort features three distinct accommodation settings; the Island Club rooms, Island Cottages, and Ocean Club Suites. All three will offer a different experience, yet you can’t go wrong with any of the options. The resort features a gorgeous dining hall with a delectable menu, however we recommend spending at least one night dining at The Wharf. This riverfront restaurant features a menu centered around Southern classics, open-air dining, live music, and will certainly make for an entertaining night for everyone in attendance. A complimentary shuttle service is provided to all guests of the resort, enabling everyone the chance to explore all 9 miles of the island’s beautiful beaches. If you brought the kids along and they’re yearning for a fun activity, a complimentary shuttle service is also offered to and from Summer Waves Water Park. The park has multiple water slides, a lazy river, and a large wave pool, making it the perfect place for a family fun-filled day.
Ocracoke Island, North Carolina
A part of North Carolina’s coastal Outer Banks region, Ocracoke Island makes for a beautiful beach getaway that won’t be packed with people. Referred to by locals as “the cure for the common beach,” Ocracoke Island is a unique destination because of its 16 miles of undeveloped beaches. No hotels or condos line the beach, so step out onto the sand, look for miles in each direction, and all you will see is sand, dunes and the ocean. If you’re looking for some excitement, surf boards, kayaks, and waverunners are all available for rent at various locations. Tours are also available, but one of the best ways to explore the island is to rent a golf cart and take a tour of your own. Every restaurant in the town of Ocracoke is locally owned and operated, so you won’t be finding any of your favorite chains on the island. What you will find is freshly prepared food that will melt in your mouth and family style service at every restaurant. The island is especially known for its perfection of marine based cuisine, so we highly recommend something from the sea!
Block Island, Rhode Island
Most people might not think of Rhode Island as a typical vacation destination, but that’s exactly our point! A trip to Block Island will offer a unique experience and take you somewhere you probably never thought of going before. While visiting, head to the Mohegan Bluffs. This doesn’t have to be the first thing you do, but it will wind up being the most rewarding part of your trip. The 150-foot clay cliffs on the south side of the Island offer incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean and a rich history. Take the stairs down the cliffs, and arrive at one of the most beautiful and relaxing beaches you will ever come across. It is the perfect place for a picnic and relaxing by the water. Once you get hungry for dinner, The Oar Restaurant is the perfect place to mingle with locals, enjoy a casual atmosphere with a couple drinks, and eat some of the best New England style food you can imagine. The Oar is located right on the water of the Great Salt Pond, and boasts some of the best clam chowder, and lobster rolls around. However, what they’re really known for are their frozen mudslides. They are the perfect combination of a delicious dessert, and an ice-cold cocktail. To fully appreciate the beauty of Block Island’s natural environment, head to Pond and Beyond Kayak for group ecotours around The Great Salt Pond, an area of Block Island filled with nature’s beauty and wildlife. Tours are suitable for even the most inexperienced kayakers, but for those of you with experience, rent one of your own, and create a new scenic route.
Memorial Day is a time for you to get away for a bit, and forget about all the stress that comes with everyday life. This year, allow yourself to try something new, and truly relax by surrounding yourself with loved ones, and avoiding the masses. All four of these locations are unique in their own way, but all of them will provide you with the vacation you’re looking for, and they might even become your new secret go to spot. Book with Rubinsohn Travel today by calling (215) 886-5200, and let’s get started on your Memorial Day getaway.
Your Mediterranean Adventure Awaits!
There are so many countries to visit, so many cultures to immerse oneself in and so many culinary dishes to be explored, that choosing where to travel to can be downright impossible. Rubinsohn Travel (215) 886-5200 has taken care of the headache of making the choice between so many great options, and put together a vacation that will take you on a Mediterranean adventure you will never forget. Strap in for this 10-day vacation that will take you on a journey through Portugal and Spain.
Lisbon, Portugal – Recommended stay: 2 days
Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and is only a short one-and-a-half-hour flight from Barcelona. It is located right on the coast of Portugal, so it’s surrounded by beautiful beaches, however much of its wonder remains in the city, rather than on the water. If there is one landmark that is an absolute must see in Lisbon, it is the Torre de Belem. The tower was constructed back in the 16th century, and it has grown to become one of the most iconic features in the city. One of the best ways of travelling the city and exploring all of its vital monuments and landmarks is to take a ride in an eco-friendly tuk tuk, and allow your driver to show off their amazing hometown. Take in the beautiful architecture, and marvel at the unique Arabic textile designs coating many of the building as you explore the depths of the city. Lisbon is certainly a scenic town with its bright colored buildings, but is also famous for its seafood, which will light up your taste buds and make only a small dent in your wallet. All of the seafood is freshly caught, with the coast no more than 45 minutes away from most locations. While everything off the seafood menu is mouthwatering and delicious, the Portuguese prawns are a national treasure, and a must have for anyone venturing to Lisbon for the first time.
Sintra, Portugal – Recommended stay: 1 day
Sintra is only a 30-minute train ride from Lisbon, costs only 10 euro to get there and back, and is one of the most aesthetically unique and beautiful cities in all of Europe. Once there, various tour options will be available the moment you hop off the train. All of them are suitable methods to take in the sites of Sintra, and all of them will eventually take you to Sintra’s crown jewel, the Palacio de Pena. In order to reach the palace, tickets must be purchased at the entrance to El Parque Nacional de Palacio de Pena. The national park is full of various hiking trails that will showcase nature’s beauty, while the main path takes you up the mountain to the castle. The Portuguese castle was listed as a UNESCO world heritage site back in 1990, and is something out of a fairytale with its unique architecture, bright colored towers and location sitting atop a mountain peak. Walk around the outside of the castle, and enjoy some of the best views in all of Sintra. Then take a tour of the inside, and discover how the Portuguese royalty once lived. After exploring the castle, venture down the mountain to enjoy a traditional Portuguese meal at one of many local restaurants and cafes. We really recommend trying a dish with cod, it’s what they’re known for!
Barcelona, Spain – Recommended stay: 3 days
Barcelona is the second most populated city in Spain, with just over 1.6 million residents, and it is the first stop on your adventure for a reason. There is so much unique architecture that gives Barcelona a personality of its own, and oddly enough, the most important piece of that architecture isn’t even completed yet. La Sagrada Familia embodies the dreamlike works of Antoni Gaudi and is a sight to behold, despite being only ¾ of the way done. It includes architectural styles such as Catalan Modernism, Art Nouveau, and Spanish Late-Gothic, however it cannot be placed definitively in any one category because it is truly one of a kind. Next, take a stroll over to Gràcia, and see what small town life is like for the locals of Barcelona. The narrow streets and plazas are packed with bars and restaurants that are filled with people at all times during the day. It is a great place to sit down and relax with some delicious tapas, enjoy good company, and truly embrace the laxed Spanish lifestyle. In order to experience the full might of Barcelona’s culture, venture to Camp Nou, the 99,000 capacity fútbol stadium which has been home to FC Barcelona since 1957. The booming energy and intense loyalty can be felt throughout the entire stadium each and every game, and it is a spectacle to behold.
Cadaqués, Spain – Recommended stay: 2 days
Cadaqués is a vacation town located on the Costa Brava in Spain, and it is one of the most beautiful towns in the entire country. It takes just under 2 hours to drive there from Barcelona, but once there, it will be worth every minute spent on the road. Upon arrival, drop your things off in your hotel, and go out for a stroll around the town before heading towards the Far de Cala Nans hiking trail. It is a beautiful trail that will give you a view of the Spanish coast unlike anything else. You will be engulfed in nature throughout the hike, and after about 3 km of walking you will come across a set of stone steps that will take you down to a private beach. It is the perfect place to bring some traditional Spanish bocadillos, soak in the sun and go for a swim to cool off. Cadaqués boasts some of the best seafood you will have in your entire life. From some of the most flavorful calamari in the world, to freshly caught fish grilled to perfection, Cadaqués will provide you with a culinary experience you will never forget.
Barcelona, Spain – Recommended stay: 2 days
Yes, that’s right it is time to head back to Barcelona! After a few days of constant travelling, relaxing by the beautiful Barcelona beaches is the perfect way to end your trip. If you are up for one final adventure, travel up to the old Spanish civil war bunkers. It doesn’t cost a thing to venture to the bunkers and for your efforts, you will be rewarded with the best view in the entire city. The entire city landscape can be captured in an instant, and you will truly feel on top of the world. It is important to cap off your vacation with a trip to a restaurant called Terraza Martinez. This restaurant is missed by most tourists because it is not located in the heart of the city, however don’t make the mistake of missing out on what many consider to be the best paella in the city. Paella is a traditional Spanish dish consisting of rice, vegetables and a sea or land-based protein that will melt in your mouth with each and every bite. Enjoy a fine dining experience, some of the best food you will ever have, and look back at the memories you have gained over the course of you trip.
Immersing yourself into the rich cultures of Spain and Portugal will show you a completely new way of life, and we guarantee that when the time to head home rolls around, you won’t want to leave. We have planned an unforgettable journey for you and your travel companions to embark on, so what are you waiting for? Give us a call at (215) 886-5200 and get your Mediterranean adventure planned today!
Adventures of a Travel Consultant
Rubinsohn Travel (215) 886-5200 values giving all clients the experience of a lifetime through planning unforgettable trips around the world. Many clients ask where our expertise comes from as we are advising them about their next journey. Our simple answer: we experience it all ourselves first. Rubinsohn has a team of travel consultants that have been around the world, and have found the beauty and excitement in each and every place they have visited. One of our most experienced travel consultants is Amy Rubinsohn.
Amy has been exposed to travel since she was a child. In 1955 her parents purchased a travel agency. This exposed her to a new world of possibilities by even just reading airline guides, and finding the best hotels around the world. When she was 12 years old, her family went on a month-long vacation to Europe, which ended up instilling a strong passion for travel in her. Just three years later, at age 15, Amy took a three-week summer vacation to Scandinavia. After college, Amy knew the travel business was the right career path for her, and she has been in it ever since.
Amy has been to numerous interesting places. Last summer she traveled to her 100th country, and she plans to make it to many more. Her journeys have led her to experience culture and life itself immensely. Although, she has no complaints about her destinations, she does have a few favorite trips. Her top two trips to date are a safari vacation in Botswana and the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador.
Botswana, located in Southern Africa, was a dream vacation for Amy. Her time there consisted of a safari trip. She was able to see so many different animals, such as elephants, lions, tigers, and zebras. Botswana has a variety of different kinds of land. Of course, there are deserts and savannas, but there are also wetlands. The Chobe River and Okavango Delta are very popular parts of Botswana for tourists to experience. The sights in Botswana’s national parks are unbeatable. The beauty of the destination and the roaming wildlife had Amy falling in love with this destination.
The Galapagos Islands in Ecuador is Amy’s second favorite vacation. Amy loves seeing different species of animals on her vacations, and the Galapagos Islands are a great place for that! Since there is a lack of natural predators there, the wildlife is comfortable with humans being around, and getting closer to them. There is a range of outdoor activities that includes wildlife watching, diving, snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, and so much more. Amy thinks this should be a bucket-list destination for all outdoor and animal lovers!
Even though Amy has already traveled to 100 countries, she already has her next vacation planned for the end of this month. She is packing her bags, and heading to Bhutan, Nepal, Tibet, and India! Nothing is stopping Amy from seeing the world. “I love to see other cultures, landscapes, and animals. I love cruising to new and unusual places.” says Amy. Her vast travel experience around the world has made her the amazing travel consultant that she is today.
Don’t wait to have an adventurous life! Take charge, and book your next vacation withRubinsohn Travel (215) 886-5200 today! Travel consultants like Amy will plan you an unforgettable journey!

Instead of bundling up to stay warm, why not beat the cold with an island getaway? Rubinsohn Travel (215) 886-5200 has found the perfect place to make everyone’s cold woes disappear.
Paradise Island, Bahamas
This vacation destination has a name that speaks for itself. The island has an area of 685 acres and is located just off the shore of the city, Nassau. The Atlantis Resort is the crown jewel of paradise and makes for the perfect getaway.
Atlantis is everything you could ever dream of. One of the resort’s biggest attractions is the Mayan themed Aquaventure water park. The park features attractions such as a mile long rapid river and multiple water slides, each with their own unique twist. The Dig is one of the most unique parts of the park, consisting of 14 lagoons with more than 50,000 aquatic animals, representing more than 250 species. It was designed to represent the lost city of Atlantis and give the guests a taste of adventure. The biggest attraction of the water park is the Mayan Temple, which features a 60 foot slide that takes you through a clear acrylic tunnel submerged in a shark-filled lagoon.
If the thrill of the water park isn’t for you, grab some friends and head out onto the 18-hole par 72 championship golf course. The course also features a restaurant and bar inside the clubhouse. After a round of golf, try relaxing by one of 11 different available pools, and don’t worry you can bring the family along too. Everybody has been on a vacation where one child was too small to go on the rides, but Atlantis has taken care of that by introducing 3 pools designed purely for kids’ entertainment and safety.
The beautiful Bahamian beaches are only a short walk away from your accommodations. Simply follow one of the paths from your tower and step out onto one of three private beaches available to the guests of Atlantis. The white-sand and crystal-blue water stretch out for 5 miles and offer some breathtaking sights of the Caribbean.
For a day of adventure, drive over the bridge to the capital of the Bahamas, Nassau, and try out various activities such as going on a food tasting tour, powerboating and snorkeling. The best way to capture the beauty of the Bahamian ocean is to embark on a SUB, or Scenic Underwater Bubble, excursion, which involves using a personal submarine to propel oneself through the water and explore what the ocean has to offer.

Traveling with a Purpose
Having a passion for travel and wanting to see the world is something Rubinsohn Travel (215) 886-5200 loves. But, sometimes we find that travelers get so caught up in their vacation that they don’t always take in the local community and give back to the places they visit. We have a solution to that. We have chosen a few great places to visit where you can experience an exciting trip, while also finding volunteer opportunities.
India
India is known for having rich culture. There are multiple stops to make along your travels in India. The first stop is in Agra to see the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal is one of the most notable tourist destinations in India for its historical beauty. Another stop is Ladakh. This destination attracts many travelers and it is known as “Little Tibet.” The weather is great and it contains many Buddhist monasteries. After you have visited these places and more, extend your trip and volunteer. Programs vary, but a popular program includes teaching young girls empowerment in schools and shelters.
Peru
Peru has many historical places to see. The Incas left many buildings and temples behind in Machu Picchu and they are must-sees. The ruins themselves appear as if they are touching the sky. The city of Cusco is also a perfect place to visit. Cusco was the former center for the Incan Empire. There is a cultural city center still for tourists to stop by and see the mix of Incan and Spanish cultures. While you’re in this city, there are volunteer opportunities to work with disabled children in schools. Not only can you take in the sights, but you can also make a difference in locals’ lives.
Australia
Australia is always a well-known destination. From being able to see the Sydney Opera House to walking across the Harbor Bridge, it is never a dull moment. Grab your mates that like adventure and head down to the Great Barrier Reef. If you are really into the nature aspect of the coral reefs, volunteer to join a scuba clean-up crew. This is the perfect opportunity to help the environment and explore the Australian waters.
Don’t wait any longer to book your trip! Give yourself the adventure of a lifetime while still making time in your trip to give back to local communities. Rubinsohn Travel (215) 886-5200 has all of the answers for your perfect vacation.
