Fall is one of the best times of the year for a weekend getaway or a week-long vacation. Take this opportunity and let Rubinsohn Travel (215) 886-5200  plan the perfect trip before the winter blues hit. In this guide we have selected destinations in California to visit this September, October, or November that will blow you away.

Wine Tasting During Harvest Season:

For the full wine making experience, visitors should explore Napa Valley during Harvest when winemakers and vineyard workers are working to pick grapes at the peak of ripeness. Watch as vineyard workers pass by in their trucks overflowing with grapes, and smile as they spill into the road. Many Napa Valley wineries want guests to see the entire wine making experience, from giving guided tours of the cellars to tasting wine fresh out of the barrel. However, if you are looking to get a behind-the-scenes tour of multiple wineries, the Napa Valley Wine Train, is a historic tour that combines food, wine and multiple stops at award-winning wineries around Napa in a shorter time frame than driving. There are six different tours that visitors can choose from, including a full day tour to a half day journey along 36-miles of Wine Country from Downtown Napa to St.Helena and back. Since autumn is a bustling time of year for Wine Country, we recommend that you book at least four months in advance. In the fall and winter, the train departs after sunset, allowing visitors to take in the romantic panoramic views of Napa Valley in the evening.

Lake Tahoe: Fall Foliage:

Lake Tahoe is a top destination for winter skiing and summer hiking but between the two seasons, Lake Tahoe begins to slow down and the skies are mild. Making fall the best time to plan your trip to Tahoe. When the crowds are gone, getting around the lake is much easier for visitors. Each year Lake Tahoe hosts a wide variety of events such as their own Oktoberfest at Camp Richardson or a salmon festival called Kokanee. Along with this, all of the activities on the Lake continue throughout the season. In fact, locals call autumn the “secret season” because many people do not realize how wonderful of a time it is to visit.

San Francisco:

The very best time to experience this bustling city is in the fall when the crowds of summer tourist have subsided, and the weather is the best. September and throughout October are some of the warmest months of the year for the city, and especially desirable because there is far less fog in the sky than other months. Additionally, there are many activities to do such as, apple picking with the family in one of the many orchards around the Bay Area, or cruise the bay for a romantic evening on The Sunset Cruise tour.

Santa Ana Art Village:

The Artist Village hosts over 40 galleries along the open-air market in Santa Ana. The Art Walk, which takes place the first Saturday of every month is a special event that hosts many local musicians and artists who bring their work to the street. For children who are not interested in art, there are many activities such as face painting, artmusement, a Coloring Wall at M. Lovewell, and games at Good Beer Company.  Whether visitors get to experience the Art Walk or not, autumn is the best time to stroll through local design studios while the Santa Ana leaves are changing colors right before your eyes. As the sun sets, the neighborhood comes to life, and everyone in the family will enjoy their visit.
